Hyper Light Drifter was a phenomenal Zelda-like indie-game release by Heart Machine in 2016. Earlier today the next installment of the series was announced, titled Hyper Light Breaker, slated for a Steam early access release of Spring 2023!

Hyper Light Breaker will be a 3D game revolving around multiplayer, but will still be compatible with solo play. Notably, while the game is set in the same universe as Hyper Light Drifter, it is not a sequel:

“Enter the Overgrowth, a new land in the world of Hyper Light. Play alone or with friends to explore massive biomes, defeat brutal monsters, create new builds, survive the mysterious Crowns and overthrow the almighty Abyss King in this adventure from the creators of Hyper Light Drifter.”

It also sounds like this new game will have more RPG aspects than its predecessor, which was influenced more by games like Diablo and A Link to the Past according to Alx Preston, the founder of Heart Machine. I also get the impression that the world will be bigger in this game, but just how big remains to be seen.

Definitely check out the reveal trailer above, it has some really awesome animation done by Studio Grackle, who also did work on Hades. You can add the game to your Steam wishlist here. We also reviewed Hyper Light Drifter in the past, if you’re interested in learning more about it, take a look!
