LEGO bricks are a magical thing. People have built thousands of impressive constructs with the foot-murdering little blocks for decades now, and yet there still manage to be some artists who surprise me with their amazing creations. Reddit user remig is one of those artists. After building an impressive reconstruction of the tower of Orthanc from The Lord of the Rings entirely out of LEGO bricks, this amazing man has come back and creating something just as staggering: a nearly life-size replica of the Hylian Shield, straps and all. Jump inside to see his incredible work!

To achieve the curves along the edges and the face of the shield, Remi actually had to bend some of the pieces and use techniques he described as “frustrating” and “sketchy.” Some pieces actually snapped and cut him on occasion, so one could honestly say he poured his blood and sweat into this project. Truly an admirable feat.

All I can say here is “wow.” I’ve loved LEGO since I was a kid, and I’ve never dreamed of creating anything of the incredible size and scope of Remi’s works. According to his comments on reddit, this project took him three to four months of spare time and cost about $1,500 in LEGO pieces. For the designs on the shield face, he used all sorts of varied pieces, saying: “I just used all the crazy random lego bits I could find in grey, red and dark red (space helmets, crowbars, crabs, battle droid arms, parrots)… oh, and frogs. And chainsaws, lots of chainsaws.”

If you live on the west coast and would like to see the shield for yourself, you’re in luck! Remi says he will be at Seattle’s BrickCon over the weekend with his creation, and will also be bringing it to DesignerCon near Los Angeles on November third.

I can’t say enough how much I love this. The detail, his use of the bricks, I just find it amazing. What are your thoughts? How do you like this construction? Let us know in the comments, and share some of your own Lego projects as well!
