Last year, Tom Banner Studios’ Medieval combat game Chivalry: Medieval Warfare was made a whole lot more interesting with the release of a fan-made Zelda mod called The Legend of Chivalry. The mod places players in a first-person, Zelda-esque dungeon complete with puzzles, secrets, and bosses. A few days ago, Hutts Gaming Channel on YouTube stepped into The Legend of Chivalry and explored the labyrinth for himself.

At the video’s start, Hutts is dropped into a dungeon that is very reminiscent of Ocarina of Time‘s Forest Temple. Majora’s Mask‘s Ikana Castle theme plays and Hutts is left to discover what other Zelda surprises the mod has to offer. The YouTuber is confronted with a collection of puzzles involving torches, switches, targets, and push-able blocks. As he explores the dungeon further, Hutts is challenged by a few different mini-bosses, all carrying over the sloppy, but fun combat system in Chivalry.

The Legend of Chivalry is clearly not as polished or sophisticated as other high-profile mods. In fact, it looks like it was never properly finished. Some textures are missing, enemy AI and spawns don’t always work properly, and item pick-ups glitch occasionally. Regardless, the core Zelda mechanics were implemented into Chivalry well enough, and a single-player Zelda experience offers some variety to a multiplayer game like Chivalry. The programming, scripted events, and puzzles show how much effort went into the mod’s construction; the mod should be a fun distraction for few hours.

The Legend of Chivalry was created by Kajoline on Steam Workshop. Based on his comments on the mod’s page, more development was planned for the mod, but it is currently unknown if Kajoline plans to continue his progress. The mod is available for download, so you’re welcome to try it out yourself.
