Update: After announcing the grand prize winner, which you can see above, Nintendo UK also shared the two runners-up in their Link’s Awakening fan art competition. The first runner-up, Michael Doig, submitted a beautifully detailed piece of Link running from the shore with Koholint Island before him. The second runner-up, Oliver Harbour, submitted an equally wonderful piece of our hero riding a wave onto the mysterious island. Both runners-up will receive a copy of Link’s Awakening.
You can see both submissions in the gallery below.
Original: Last month, Nintendo UK announced that they would be hosting a Link’s Awakening fan art competition. Artists were encouraged to submit any form of Link’s Awakening-inspired artwork, including drawings, dioramas, or even dance routines. With the Switch remake finally released, Nintendo UK has announced the grand prize winner of the competition and shared the winning artwork on social media.
Nintendo UK announced that Chris McAleer was the grand prize winner of the competition for the amazing piece of artwork you see above. The piece features a monochromatic Link — obviously representing the Game Boy version of Link’s Awakening — ready to be lifted onto the Switch by the remake’s version of Marin. As the grand prize winner, McAleer will receive a Nintendo Switch and a copy of Link’s Awakening.
Nintendo UK has been sharing contest submissions on social media over the last month. You can check out some of these submissions in the gallery below.
What do you think of the winning submission? Did you submit any artwork? Let us know in the comments below!
