When you’re (most likely) bored or just feel the need to be entertained, but sadly there’s nothing on TV, the cat is outside, or your Netflix subscription just ended, some of us will probably reach for the Guiness Book of World Records, seeking enjoyment in little, extraordinary, yet strangely interesting stories. As fans of said book will most likely know, the annual release is often followed by a spin-off title known as the Guiness Book of World Records: Gamers Edition, as was the case a week ago when we received the 2015 edition.
Also noteworthy is that this years book includes a top 50 ‘Best Ever Video Game Series’ list, consisting of votes cast by 5000 faithful, widely spread readers of the consistently popular book series, all choosing what they believe is the all round best ever video game series, which coincidentally also broke a record. The top ten is listed below:
10. The Elder Scrolls
8. Assassin’s Creed
6. The Legend of Zelda
4. Grand Theft Auto
2. Super Mario Bros.
1. Call of Duty
As most will have noticed, The Legend of Zelda ranks considerably low, taking into account that the series has a massive fanbase, spanning several generations. Furthermore, Call of Duty is (quite extraordinarially) ranked as the number one best video game series of all time, beating Super Mario Bros. , Grand Theft Auto, and Halo. Noteworthy is also the fact that Minecraft is listed as a video game series, although it only consists of one, regularly updated title. The full list, containing 50 entries in total, can be seen by follow the link in the source.
Do you agree with this list? What would you change or add?
