The creators of the Zelda series have often stated that Link is so-named due to his role of being the link between the gamer and the gaming world. Even Shigeru Miyamoto has explained Link as being mute so that the gamer can feel like it is their story. Ever since the first title in the series, players have been able to rename Link to their own name. But what if the player was able to take this one step further by changing Link’s appearance to physically match their own?

I’m always a sucker for customization and love being able to customize my games no matter how small the effect is. When they released Link’s outfit as DLC for Smash Bros., I immediately purchased it so that I could have my Mii fight in style! But I’ve actually had thoughts of character customization in the Zelda games ever since playing the Zelda-themed Battle Quest in NintendoLand. Having my silly little bearded Mii run around in the classic green tunic and swinging the Master sword was surprisingly enjoyable.

My Mii in NintendoLand

Obviously, with the art style of Zelda, simply porting your Mii character into the main game would not blend well.  However, there are many games out there where you can tweak a main character’s looks to easily mesh well with the in-game art style and graphics. While I don’t think you would need to have the fully ability to change the length and size of Link’s Hylian-pointed ears, it would be nice to change eye/hair color, add some facial hair, or adjust the shape of his face. Of course, this would be a perfect time to introduce Linkle into the mix to give our lady gamers a chance to customize their experience as well.

So would you want to have Link be a better avatar and represent your physical features better in the world of Hyrule? Or do you prefer Link stay true to the blue-eyed and blond hair? Let us know in the comments below!
