If you’re living outside the Americas, there’s a high probability that you’ve never heard of mariachi music. Originating in Mexico, mariachi is a popular folk style of music that is high-energy and rich, and it just makes you want to dance. No joke, Darunia would totally get down to this genre of music.

As a child of the southwestern United States, mariachi music was everywhere for me. Weddings, funerals, high school graduations, you name it. If there was a cause for people to gather, there was a reason to hire a mariachi band. After my family moved away, chances to hear the sound of my childhood dwindled. So, imagine my excitement coming across Mariachi Entertainment System! Like their name suggests, this group is dedicated to giving video game covers that little bit of Mexican magic.

Their rendition of The Legend of Zelda‘s main theme is wonderful. Despite recording remotely in their own studio, each musician is synched up perfectly. And most importantly, it made me want to get up and move. There are several other Zelda themed covers on their channel, including, of course, “Gerudo Valley”.

So, what do you think? Is this your first exposure to the mariachi genre? Or, does this style of music also give you wistful memories of childhood? What other covers would you like to see Mariachi Entertainment System perform? Let us know in the comments!
