One of the Zelda series’ most underrated soundtracks comes from Twilight Princess. Filled with somber ballads, it’s a collection of music which brilliantly accents the game’s melancholy tone. Probably the most recognizable of these tracks is “Midna’s Lament” which has been beautifully rearranged by cellist Kaitlin Findlay.

This is a challenging and intense piece, but it is done immense justice by Kaitlin’s cello rendition. After a perfect recreation of the primary melody, the music swells to new heights as the song hits its emotional peak, only to calmly descend back down and close out the performance. Kaitlin is also costumed as Midna in her true form seen only at the conclusion of the game. This presentation, along with the gorgeous scenic backdrop, makes for a goosebump-inducing song. Thankfully there aren’t any enemy encounters to interrupt it here.

“Midna’s Lament” is a fan favorite and accentuates one of the series’ most dramatic moments; a desperate dash to save a friend on the brink. Kaitlin Findlay’s cello performance wonderfully evokes the emotional queues of that sequence. Her YouTube channel contains many more cello covers of classic music from a variety of video games, anime, and media franchises, along with cello renditions of some contemporary tracks.
