GBA Games Coming to Virtual Console Soon?

Nintendo of Australia has recently listed GameBoy Advance as a category of Virtual Console games on the eShop page of their official website. Right now, the only game listed is Dr. Mario, which the website claims is currently available. But something doesn’t add up.

First of all, I’ve heard that this website listing conflicts with the actual Australian eShop, which does not have the game available to download. I can’t verify this, but perhaps one of our overseas readers can. The other problem, though, is that Dr. Mario is an NES game. It was remade in 2004 as a part of the GBA’s Classic NES Series. To choose the GameBoy Advance release to put on the eShop and then market as a GBA game simply doesn’t make sense.

For a long time, Nintendo hasn’t been giving the Virtual Console proper attention. If this is true, then good news for us: Nintendo is preparing to give everybody some great GBA games on the Virtual Console. They’ll likely trickle in just as slowly—if not even more so—than the GameBoy Color titles, but at least it’s something. If the listing is a fluke (which, in all honesty, is far more likely) then the fact that the site was set up to show any GameBoy Advance games in the first place is a great sign. When they’ll be here, I can’t say, but at least we know they’re planning on bringing them at some point. All I can say is that it’s about damn time, and I hope you all agree with me.
