G4 Game of the Year: Vote for Skyward Sword

Skyward Sword needs your help! G4 currently is running their Videogame Deathmatch: Best of 2011. There are 32 games within the competition vying for the game of the year award. Currently Skyward Sword is up against Uncharted 3 and it is trailing 42% to 58%. Now don’t get me wrong, Uncharted 3 is one heck of a game, but here are the few reasons why I feel that Skyward Sword should beat out Uncharted 3.

  • Skyward Sword will take the average gamer 40+ hours of gameplay for the main quest alone, with dozens of more hours of gameplay for the side quests. Uncharted 3 reportedly consists of about 8 hours of gameplay for the main quest.
  • Skyward Sword is an incredibly unique game for its series, being the first of its kind using motion controls. It’s significantly different than the last console Zelda title, Twilight Princess. Uncharted 3 on the other hand is built off the success of Uncharted 2 and they are played very similarly.
  • Critically, Skyward Sword has gotten higher scores, with an average rating of 95 on Metacritic with almost half of all reviews giving it a perfect 100%. Uncharted has received solid reviews as well with an average score of 92 on Metacritic, with just over 25% of their reviews getting a perfect score.
  • In 10 years when we look back at the games of 2011, Skyward Sword will certainly stand out as one of the best games of this time period for its revolutionary controls and for being one of, if not thee greatest games for the Nintendo Wii. Uncharted 3’s legacy will be that it was one of the many games in a series during the PS3’s lifetime that was highly acclaimed. At the pace their going with a major release every two years, Uncharted 4 is likely to make it to the PS3 as well. Hard to believe that this single game will stand out above the rest in the series, and on the console as a whole.
