OoT-N64 What Complaints Did You Have with Ocarina of Time?

Like the thread says, what complaints did you have for Ocarina of Time? For me personally it was things like how much the Owl droned on and on, I found that the beginning was sort of boring, and don't forget the infamous Water Temple :O.

My complaints with the masterpiece Ocarina of Time are as follows:

- The beginning movies that explained the story of the Triforce and Ganondorf's wanting it are unable to be skipped. On my umpteenth playthrough, I grow tired of sitting through the cinematic over and over again.
- The Owl would constantly drone on and on with his words, and Nintendo even trolled us in Ocarina of Time 3D by leaving the default option on "Yes, I want to hear what you said again". -.-
- The Magic Meter was sort of just 'there'; it wasn't required for any boss fight save the penultimate boss.

Slow text, slow running speed, slow horse, slow swimming speed.

The Hover Boots should have been more useful than they were.

Yeah, that's it. :3

Navi and the bloody owl. They even have the nerve to trick us into hearing his bloody speech again...>.<

Slow text, slow running speed
For the first one, you can actually edit the text speed on the File Select screen.
For the second one, you can backwalk everywhere or sidehop -- the first is accomplished by looking in the OPPOSITE direction you want to go in, Z-Target, then start walking backwards. It's the fastest method of travel by foot. The second is accomplished by looking to the side of the direction you want to go, Z-targeting then jumping to the side, it's the second fastest method of travel by foot.

I feel having to manually edit the options is a bit tedious, but hey, what can you do? ;)

-Dysfunctional Rupee System. Rupees did nothing but collect dust.
-Long cutscenes, especially tiring when going through 2nd, 3rd, 4th+ playthroughs.
-Repetitive Owl. I hated being stopped to have a conversation with this guy, bird, thing.

Other than that, Ocarina of Time was pretty much flawless.

Plenty. I hated at least half the dungeons in the entire game. The game was ridiculously easy but isn't even light hearted. It was like Wind Waker except they were trying to make it tough and failed miserably. Everything in between dungeons was tedious and boring, and seemed like it was going back to its roots in not telling you what the hell to do at some parts. I think the old man in LoZ was more useful than Sheik. Some of the puzzles required you to do everything humanly possible. There was no indication on what you had to do, you just had to do it. Kill every enemy, move every block. Seemed more like time wasting than actual problem solving. The final boss was insanely easy and very anticlimactic. I don't know why people like Ganon so much, because it just pops out of rubble and oh no, my master sword is gone! Guess I'll crush him with the at least 2 weapons I have in my inventory which are better than the Master Sword, especially against an enemy who pretty much CAN'T hit you. And then I get the sword back? Oh, maybe there will be a new thing to do in the fight besides roll and attack! Nope, it's the same as what you've been doing the WHOLE fight. No difference.

Now, there was stuff I DID like about the game, specifically the 3 child dungeons I really enjoyed, but there was plenty I wasn't very fond of.

Well, let's all keep in mind that Ocarina of Time was made 14 years ago. Of course some things aren't going to be "as good" as they are now. I'm kind of shocked that you said that it was "going back to its roots", when each game before it gave you no direction at all. The reason Ganon is looked upon with pride from the Zelda community is because that was the first time games had ever done a boss fight to that extent. It was shocking back in 1998. What else could you expect out of the boss fight? Also, keep in mind that as the first 3D Zelda, not much had been practiced in the 3D world at the time. The game enemies were pretty hard for the time, but they didn't want to alienate their fanbase like they did with Adventure of Link. It may have a few flaws;(I honestly can't see them), but it is no where near as awful as you say it is.

The initial wallet size was way too small, especially when rupees were so easy to come across. Not to mention how useless rupees were. The whole system of rupees was pretty much messed up in OoT.

Bombs exploded way too fast. I never had enough time to acually aim my bomb. It always exploded in my hands. I can't think of any other Zelda with this problem.

The owl's text was way to slow. Navi was also awful. She repeats the same obvious things over and over again. Also, her text during the beginning is ridiculously slow.

Equipping the iron boots over and over again in the Water Temple was very tedious.

The Hover Boots were mostly useless.

I had trouble breaking pots in OoT. I haven't heard about anyone else having this problem, so maybe it's just me.

It was difficult for Epona to jump over fences. I can't tell you how many times I lost the race because of this. Epona just seemed difficult to control in general. Riding her was much easier in TP.

I really didn't like the color scheme for some reason. It seemed so drab and boring in some areas.

The plot was weak when compared to most 3D Zeldas. Ganon's diolouge was also very generic.

OoT acually has plenty of flaws to me. It's my least favorite 3D Zelda, but I still love it.

I just hate that after getting all 100 skulltulas, you're given some rupees. Thanks, but by the time I get all 100, my wallet is either full, or there's nothing to buy/save up for...

Yeah, even with the fastest text, it's still not fast enough for me. For the "slow walking" complaint -- though there is a solution for it, I made that complaint because, well, the walking speed is slow. Walking forward should be the best option. We're made to backwalk because walking forward is so slow. If it wasn't a problem, we wouldn't backwalk. ^_^;

@Text I can respect that. I feel it's too fast, but hey, we're on opposite sides of the spectrum.

@Walking But it's only walking forward! Taking your leisurely time to stride through the world, you know? I mean, it's not like Link is ever in a rush if we take his walking/running animation into context :P LOL, I still agree here -- the running should be fastest.

Epona cannot climb stairs and has a limited range.

Hyrule seems awfully small for a great cardinal kingdom. (I forgive this, as the original game was made when the technology probably wouldn't have allowed for a world as large as Twilight Princess' or Wind Wakers').

No, Navi, I don't want to go to that area right away. Please stop yelling at me like I'm stupid. I'm exploring stuff right now. Oh, for a bottle to put you in just to get you out of my hair for a while!

Oh, aren't you a know-it-Owl! No! No! I didn't mean to press the repeat button! I heard you just fine! *Crushed by wall of text.*

Okay, so Link has defeated Ganon and saved the kingdom. What are you doing, Zelda? Nooooo! What if he doesn't want to go back to "relive his lost time?" He can't be a Kokiri again because he knows he's a Hylian who will grow up! His heart is that of a battlescarred veteran! He's probably more adult than child, now! You're really going to send him back to a time where no one knows or cares who he is and all his work has been undone? WTF?!!!! *Hugs poor little Link.*
