I really would not like to see Zelda characters racing around Hyrule in Go Karts.

It's also hard for me to swallow the idea of the inhabitants of Hyrule being able to use things like cars and trains.

Zelda is too old to be made into a racing game. Zelda was set in medieval times and a car with a motor just really doesn't fit..

I do not think this would work. Zelda is in a medieval style, how could they suddenly have carts?

I think they could do a Zelda racing game. But not with karts. I really don't think karts would fit in the Zelda world.

In defense of the idea (which I don't like), I'm going to let everyone know that the game would NOT have to be with go karts. Everyone keeps saying that go karts and Zelda don't mix. I don't get why no one understands that it would be with like horses or as a Goron or in the water as a Zora or with a boat or something. It wouldn't be go karts. Nintendo would never make a medieval racing game with go karts. They aren't stupid.

There won't be cars, go karts, motors, engines, etc..

No offense to anyone here, but I don't get why most of you weren't smart enough to just think of horses and boats instead of motors and engines and cars and go karts etc..

Before my original reply, I did take it into both accounts, that it could be either karts, or other modes of transport. The part that I don't think I could get around is the coming together of the Zelda universe characters for this type of competition, be it karts, horses, boats, trains, running... whatever. Karts would definitely be the craziest of the ideas for a Zelda racer, but I don't think any other vehicles would translate that well.

It seems to be something that just fits the Mario crowd better because the whole universe is a bit lighter, and less serious than Zelda. This is why I thought it might work better in TWW style, since there's that cartoonish element to it that might help the believability of the whole situation.

Even if it was more tailored to fit the Zelda universe, I don't think it would go over well. I am actually surprised to see the large amount of negativity to Link's Crossbow Training, which I felt was very in-universe and was a great little side game. If people thought it was too kitchy and was a money-grab, then any other Zelda sub-series of games would probably be recieved just as badly.

I think we overlooked the idea of swimming, horse riding, Goron racing and the likes because it were initially compared to Mario Kart. I don't think it was an issue of intellect, I think it was an issue of not thinking outside the initial idea.

Although, I still think the idea of a Zelda racing game of any sort is too out of place for the Zelda series. We already have the CDi games to be ashamed of :|

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo did this. I could actually see Nintendo doing something like this. I'm not in favor of this. If they do a racing game, I think it should be a game like SSB, where they have characters from all the games. They could make tracks like "The Arbiters Grounds". It'd just be another game probably released for Wii that I wouldn't be able to get...

I agree that the only way I would ever want to see Link racing is if it's a sidequest in one of the games or if it's in a Super Smash Brothers Racing game (which Nintendo really should make. I'm surprised they haven't thought of that yet).

I am Wiiless, so I understand your whole "wouldn't be able to get" scenario. I hate being poor and not being able to afford a Wii. I want one SOO bad.

If you had actually bothered to read my entire thread instead of just taking a small section to quote to support your argument. You'll see I posted a whole quote on the characters and different modes of transport they could use, including on foot, horseback, boats, by deku leaf etc etc.

For some reason, I believe that Bowser would enter a go kart race, but Ganondorf would stare at you with an "are you serious?" glare before killing you. I think it works in Smash Brothers though because it's about fighting and trying to destroy your opponent in battle. It fits the ideas of Zelda a bit better than Kart racing would.

Also, Smash Bros. apparently takes place in its own universe, and the characters aren't really the Nintendo characters, but anthropomorphic statues of Nintendo characters. (And Sonic and Snake.)

Honestly, I assumed that the Mario sports and party spinoffs were out-of-continuity, but I eventually gave up on trying to figure out a canon for the Mario series.

I think there's a broad (albeit by no means universal) consensus that it could only work as Super Smash Kart. I'd be fine with that, but I also think it would be cool just to include tracks, karts, and possibly items from other Nintendo games in the next MarioKart. For instance an unlockable set of cups: You could either break it down by console and have the NES Cup, SNES Cup, GameCube Cup, etc. or go by series and have the Zelda Cup, Metroid Cup, and so on.

I'm actually not all that big on the idea of racing horses and boats and so forth, because it would severely limit the matchups. You might be able to race Malon's Epona versus Ilia's (Technically Link's, I know, but...) Epona, but you couldn't pit them against the King of Red Lions unless you just happened to have a water-filled trench going in the exact path of your circuit. And even that would be severely limiting.

If you must have a replacement for karts, go with wagons (seen in both MM and TP), give everyone a horse, or create some kind of magical vehicle thingy.

I've just had a thought. They allow you to play as 'R.O.B' in mario kart DS. So why never anyone else? I always let the fact there were no other nintendo characters in mario kart fly, because I just thought that it was solely for mario characters. However, now I discover we have had R.O.B and a captain falcon car. So why never anyone else?

As cool as that would be, I don't think Zelda spin offs should be a good idea at all. If they do this, we'll see a Zelda Party then Link Tennis lol.

Didn't I already answer this one?
I don't think that a Zelda racing game would be a good idea. Zelda isn't really the type of game that you would expect to see a racing game from, the standards being set by the games like Mario. If we see any Zelda characters in a racing game at least let it be a Nintendo widespread game that features some characters from all different Nintendo series, like Mother, Starfox, and all those other games. So kind of like how the Smash Bros. titles are, only with racing. That's the only kind of racing game I could ever bear to see a Zelda character in.

It all depends on how they did it.
Each character would get different means of transportation based on their character. Zelda, Link, Ganon = Horseback.
Goron Link = Rolling
Midna = Riding on Wolf Link
etc.
But I don't think it'd be all around that fun considering how slow a horse is compared to a car, unless they added bows or some sort of weaponry to make it a fighting/action/racing game.
