I am A Leaf On The Wind
That is nice, and how a lot of friends have to be about fandoms. For myself, it is has be exasperating that a person keeps mistreating me over my fandom, but does not to other members on the forums. Like its only I that gets dung thrown at me for the same fandom. That is my issue. When you have good friends, you can make fun of each others obsessions and passions, its all in good fun, because the pokes go both ways. What is frustrating tho, is when someone targets you, makes you feel like carp for a fandom they also have, and that they allow others to express without being chided.Idk what I am necessarily trying to say with this, but I feel there may be something to this that you might find useful.
I've known @CynicalSquid for roughly a decade now. He can't stand pop-punk music, will straight up talk **** about it to me. Two of my favorite bands are blink-182 and Simple Plan, both are to different degrees legendary pop-punk bands. I love the genre and hold it dear to my heart. So how am I still friends with this tasteless dork? Honestly a lot of getting over my own insecurities. The things that matter to me (you) don't need to matter to anybody else. CynicalSquid may not have loved the thing I loved, but that was never a personal attack against me. My friendship with him taught me a lot about myself and what I consider important. I may not always agree with his opinion on something, but I often go to him first for an opinion, because I have learned just how much his opinions are worth (even when they are plain wrong and lacking of taste). We've both grown a lot since we first met each other, but having a healthy understanding that our opinions will differ and that we can respect that we've each come to enjoy different things for different, yet equally valid reasons, is likely a large part of why I still call him a friend today.
I guess to give an example is lets say three people like the same sword from Zelda, The Master Sword, but person C allows themselves to love Fi, and person A they let express their fandom for Fi, but Person B gets persecuted by Person C for the same Master Sword fandom. Its very.. well, lets just say it sucks to be Person B.
