Skyward Sword's Lack of Musical Instrument

During today's e3 showing of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, nothing was mentioned or shown of Link having a musical instrument, as he has in the past. Do you think this is a good move on Nintendo's part, or you you want to see something involving music such as the baton from WW or the ever popular Ocarina from OoT/MM? Instrument or no instrument, what do you think?

I think this game will be focusing more on Link's sword, not an added musical instrument. There may include one on, but I doubt it will be as significant as the others were in past games.

I would love to have a instrument. It's classic. Just because it doesn't showed in the e3 doesn't mean it's not in the game. And I also saw they showed nothing about the girl from the artwork.

I dunno. We still have a /lot/ to learn about Skyward Sword; all we saw at E3 was how Wii-Motion Plus worked and new items.
Oh, and the graphics, I guess. :>

There could still be an instrument. I'm sure they are still perfecting the game. But is a musical instrument really the best choice for Skyward Sword?

Stole the words right out of my mouth. The motion controls, with the sword in particular, are going to take center stage for sure. They may tack something else on, but I wouldn't expect anything significant.

As for what it means, I don't mind it. We've had so many games as of late relying on it. Nintendo's been really resting on it's laurels. Some originality is needed. While I'll miss the instruments, I'm certain we'll see it again sometime in the future (we just had it with Spirit Tracks), and I don't mind being without it for a game. Several games even.

I would like a musical insturment, maybe because every game I have has something, I can't say I wouldn't mind not having it, but I would like one

We didn't learn about the Spirit Pipes straight away, so dont jump ship quite yet. Makes no difference to me though, if the odd game is minus an instrument.

With so many games focusing on a musical instrument it's not at all surprising they've said nothing about it. I think either they chose not to have an instrument at all, or if they did it just plays a minor role, maybe something like TP's wolf howls or maybe just as a normal item with a few odd functions or something. I wonder what kind of instrument would work well with Wii Motion Plus, because if they add one they're likely gonna want to incorporate motion controls in its use.

I don't want to say.
Honestly I believe the sword will be taking the place of the musical instruments in this game. There shall most likely be special commands you can operate with the sword that will allow you the chance to open different pathways or perhaps impress certain people, however in this state we can only speculate until more information had arrived.

Eh, you raise a good point. Even though we had our "big unveiling", there's still a lot left to find out. I mean, just look: No story. We've got plenty of announcements ahead of us. I wouldn't count it out just yet. We should probably keep this in mind with many aspects of the game.

I really really wanted an insturment in this game until i saw the trailer. Now I'm really not sure if I want one... I dunno why, I guess I feel it doesn't need one. But I guess I've only seen a dungeon, so really who knows?! I'm in between.
But insturments are awesome!
Maybe if i see more of the overworld I'll want one? haha. w/e. BRING ON ZELDA SKYWARD SWORD!

Just because one wasn't shown doesn't mean we won't have one by release. I would almost guarantee that within a few months, once we get some more updates on Skyward Sword, there will be some sort of musical instrument involved. I notice you mentioned that the past few titles mentioned their instruments almost immediately. Well, that's because those items were the backbone of the game. Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker's titles point directly to the main item of those games, just as Skyward Sword does. The focus was not on some musical instrument, it was on the sword, which is why we saw nothing about it at E3.

Really, I wouldn't be all that surprised if there wasn't one. With Wii motion-plus the focus is going to be on the sword anyways, and since the title is "Skyward Sword", obviously there won't be a main story item that's an instrument.

Personally, I would like to have an instrument. It's always neat having different songs each with different magical effects, and that's one thing I missed in TP. I mean, I know they had the wolf howl thing, but that was just to give you new sword techniques, and the whistling grass was hardly ever used.

I wonder what kind of instrument would work well with Wii Motion Plus, because if they add one they're likely gonna want to incorporate motion controls in its use.

If you think about it, a baton, like the Wind Waker, would probably work best with Wii motion-plus. It seems like that would feel most natural to me. Perhaps you have the ability to conduct the Goddesses with your sword or something. Sounds a little weird, but hey.
Either that, or a drum set.

I agree with most everyone else. The focus seems to be on sword usage. I think Nintendo may be putting instruments on the back burner for a little while after the mised reviews of the pipes in ST. even so, we may yet see an instrument. Only time, and Nintendo, will tell!
