Sacred Grove used to be Hyrule Castle Town

I got to thinking yesterday about different locations in various Zelda games and how they were placed on the map of each indivdual game. Then a question popped in my head: How come the master sword isn't in the Castle Town of Twilight Princess' Hyrule? Why is it all the way in the forest deep within the Sacred Grove?

Maybe it's possible that the Sacred Grove was where the Temple of Time stood and where the old Castle Town was in OoT. I haven't done any research on the subject yet but I was wondering what you guys think and whether anyone has any ideas they can share regarding this theory. I wanna hear your thoughts! :)

What happened to everything else? How's the mesas/plateaus around it form?
Too many questions IMO

To be fair, Twilight Princess as a whole is one big question in that respect. Because I sure as heck don't remember bottomless canyons all over Ocarina of Time's overworld.

Maybe Ganondorf had his say in a very big, mean, nasty way before he was tossed into twilight?

I always assumed that yes the sacred grove was Castle Town, we literally see the entirety of the temple of time but the funny thing is when we go into the past of the ToT we don't see the Master Sword. I always wonder if you could get out of bounds in the past then what would you find?

Plus i think as time went on (cuz the temple of time took a heavy remodeling) people migrated north west as OOT Hyrule broke up, we only see a small section of death mountain and the northern peaks are more frozen than before. Also ganondorf went on a big ol rampage before he was stopped so i think that contributed.

The Temple of Time never was supposed to be next to Castle Town, it was always meant to be in the lost woods. In OOT it was only where it was because Nintendo wanted to show the player the devastation that Ganondorf had caused as soon as they leave the temple as an adult for the first time.

I just assumed TP was retconing the location and putting it in its rightful place.

Then how come the people in castle town knew about the Temple of Time then? I believe the Temple of Time really was in Castle Town in OoT, mostly for that reason. Also, the lost woods already had the Forest Temple, which I believe becomes the Temple of Time dungeon in TP. Yes, I believe that at some point the Temple of Time in Castle Town was destroyed and then moved rebuilt in the woods. That's why it look so different in TP, let alone the fact it's in a different place to begin with.

TP is supposed to take place like so many generations after OoT and MM anyways, so, yeah. Nintendo is notorious for having such confusing geography logic in their overworld maps in Zelda games. That's it's hard to piece things together in a timeline when thinking in the geological sense.

There are historical precedents of temples being physically relocated for various reasons. The Egyptians had a pretty good system for doing this. So it stands to reason that the Temple of Time may have been moved farther away from Castle Town at some point. I suppose the only question left is why they may have felt the need to do such a thing?

According to Hyrule Historia the temple was rebuilt and the Master Sword relocated. A month ago Locke and me had a similar discussion, we concluded that maybe if the area the Master Sword was put at the end of Skyward Sword had been the area it was put prior to Twilight Princess things would have made sense. The Sealed Temple in SS was located in the forest which would have closely been in the same area the sacard grove is found in Twilight Princess.

So basically the Temple were the sword was at the end SS was in the area of the woods. I imagine that temple got destroyed so they made a new temple near Castle town which tends to always be in central locations on the Map of Hyrule. That Temple was destroyed, took apart and moved, or a new replica temple was built in the forest region again for a final time.

In all truth G-King is right, the Temple of Time was never supposed to be near the Castle Town to begin with, Skyward Sword proves that they wanted the temple to be in the forest.

And of course canonically, the first appearance of the Master Sword is in the Mysterious Woods from A Link to the Past. So it makes sense that they wanted it sequestered somewhere away from the main drag.

Interesting point. I like that. ^^

I tried finding pictures of this, but don't both the entrances of the Sacred Grove and the Forest Temple have broken stairs in front of them? If so, that could definitely support the theory that the Temple of Time was just moved to the Forest Temple and NOT where the original site was in OoT.

The broken staircase in TP lead out of the Temple of Time. The broken Staircase in OoT lead inside the Forest Temple.

I was thinking of the stairs in TP that led into the part of the Sacred Grove with the Master Sword and the entrance to the Temple of Time dungeon. I imagined those would be the same stairs that are the broken ones in front of the Forest Temple in OoT. If that clarifies anything.
