Nintendo want to support Switch for 7-10 years

No way in hell will they be able to do it for a decade, Microsoft and Sony would stomp nintendo into the ground with new developments so damn quick. We may love nintendo but if it runs slower than other console i doubt we'd buy it.
Just like how the Vita stomped down the 3DS to the ground right?

Or even just like how Sony and Microsoft are stomping down Nintendo so they have bad sales, despite the Nintendo Switch already selling over 14 million units.

Whatever Sony and Microsoft do, they will not be able to compete with the Switch’s selling point, portability. At least for the next couple of years, there isn’t even a handheld capable of being more powerful within such a small form, and a good price.

Nah, PS4 and Switch have been selling gangbusters through 2017, and that isn’t going to stop. They compete in 2 completely markets and they will coexist.

As for the next 7-10 years thing. Yeah, probably! The 3DS is actually turning 7 years this February. Still had great third party support, great games, and there are still a couple of things coming down the line

Well said. I agree with all of that.

There is another point well worth mentioning though. The Switch uses newer tech but the PS4 and XB1 are based on legacy (at this point) tech. The optical media drive and HDD really have no place anymore on a modern piece of hardware tech. These two things are holding the Playstation and Xbox back from being even better consoles.

The other point is in 5 plus years the Switch's tech will be old at that point and will need a hardware revision. The PS4, XB1 and 3DS all got hardware revisions to better play the moderm games and to have games with more features that the original hardware could not support. Also the hype of the PS4, XB1 and 3DS as consoles had totally died now too. It's just a few specific games that people are hyped for now days. The sales figures are saying the base models of the PS4 and XB1 along with the slim models are getting the sales. The pro consoles are not selling all that well. The New 3DS is doing well simply because the standard 3DS was taken off the market.

The PS4 now is mostly advertised as a budget slim console for those who still don't have one. I have no idea if it's sellnig at profit or below cost. Nintendo have stated that htey will not sell the Switch below cost. A smart move but it means any Switch price drops will rely on the base cost of the parts and labor to drop first.

I think in 5 or so years time if Nintendo still want to push the Switch, they need some kind of hardware revision. Will this replace or coexist with the original Switch hardware? It's a tough sell because the games need to be playable on the original hardware as well. There's not been that many New 3DS exclusives. Also i don't think there is any PS4Pro exclusives.

Maybe it would work if they made add-ons for the Switch that would improve it's performance and allow it to keep up with it's competitors. But the last time Nintendo did something like that was the 64DD which was a commercial failure and it didn't sell outside of Japan.

Only if they're somehow able to consistently release technical updates that render previous generations of the Switch obsolete. If not, then there will be a point when no big third party releases will make it to the system, and one of the incentives to buy the Switch (big games on the go) will be gone.
