So I dont think I've seen a thread like this! Well since I've been active...sorry if there is!

Now I know this could be a quite a controversial topic but what In your "Opinion" is the most most overrated/underrated Zelda game? I'll start off:

Most Overrated
Now am going to choose an option that I think might be in the minority, but I think the Original LoZ is the most overrated Zelda game! I could see at the time how great it was but seriously! A lot of people consider this to be amazing and imo I think just because this was the first game it shouldn't get praised on that aspect! I think AlttP was truly the first Zelda game to influence the series.

Most Underrated
I think am going to go with the Minish Cap! Even though this game does seem to get a lot of praise I just feel it doesn't get enough...Just because the Minish Cap was a handheld it doesn't mean it can't be up there with the so called main console Zelda game's! The Minish Cap had an awesome overworld, a great theme and explored intresting concepts not to mention imaginative puzzles!

Most Overrated
I'm gonna say OoT, its a masterclass and a masterpiece, a true example of how to make a game but it is the crux of Zelda not only in canon timeline but in the fact that it is the only one outsiders looking in know about and remember. Nearly everyone has played OoT and knows about it and really like FF7 the rest of the games in the franchise are just left and right hands to the centre head which is a shame but still, OoT deserves its status, it deserves to be overrated, it isn't a bad thing that it is.

Most Underrated
Wind Waker because 'looks like a child's tv show, i'm not gunna play.' says the non-loyal gaming majority.

Wind Waker, I really like this game, but I think the Great Sea is a kind of a boring overworld; there's cool stuff to see on the islands, but the travel between islands is dull with no scenery. Also, the 2 escort dungeons were very tedious where you had to keep playing the command melody.

Most Underrated
Links Awakening, I think this is one of the most fun games in the series. There are some neat references to other Nintendo games, and the dungeons are clever and challenging.

Most overrated; OoT, Yes it was a good game of it's time but doesn't have to be praised to this day.
Most underrated; AoL, The only Zelda game that actually gave a good challenge and had some nice RPG elements. These things are actually a huge positive factor in my book while quite teh contrary to other Zelda fans that find them to be the game's weak points.

well most overrated, OOT. i will agree i did enjoy the game and it is good, but when a new zelda game comes out people compare it to OOT, its ether too much like OOT, or not like OOT.

Most Underrated, i would say Links Awakening. was fun and challenging and i enjoyed the game.
Another Underrated game i will include in my response, MM the Direct Sequel to OOT. WW use to be underrated but now it is getting an HD remake.

Most overrated: OoT for all reasons listed above. It's my favorite game and really the best game ever made in my book, but it's still terribly overrated. I personally bypass the horrible economy with comments like "it was limited by the N64 hardware."

Most underrated: AoL. Much like Zorth, I believe the RPG elements and the insane difficulty are actual pluses to the game, not detriments. Fans of course dislike them; sure by todays standards AoL is frustratingly hard, but in the grand scheme of things I'd say AoL doesn't come close to "the hardest game ever made" as some fans dub it. Rather than call AoL the black sheep, they should call it the Savior of the Ages. :I

A Link to the Past-While it's the blueprint for the franchise, later games built on the dual overworld with a deeper story. I replay A Link to the Past regularly but I infinitely prefer its "clones"-Ocarina of Time of Twilight Princess.

Most Underrated
Spirit Tracks-ST improved upon most of PH's flaws but is continually hammered for its on rails overworld. My only gripe with this adventure is its lack of the online features present in Phantom Hourglass.

This is in my top 5 Zelda's and Top 10 favorite games...but it's still incredibly overrated (in the online community) in my opinion. It's a great game, had the best sidequests of the series, and was a truly unique experience, but this game also has the largest amount of blind fanboys. Being as TP fanboy myself, I know how to recognize them.

In some cases, I think a few things are just overrated. The story felt weak to me, was riddled with plot holes, and felt unimportant due to sidequest focus. The characters were better than your typical OoT randoms, but I felt like we didn't get any truly great characters like Midna, Groose, Colin, Talo, etc. They were beyond OoT in the sense that they were characters, not NPCs, but none of them felt strong to me. Not enough focus or importance placed on them.

But then the MM fans get to...the weird area...where they start claiming MM has all of this hidden symbolism, deep meaning, and hidden messages, etc. to the point where I think they're smoking something.

Most Underrated: Spirit Tracks

I think this is the best 2D Zelda we've ever seen...and possibly the best we're ever going to see. The touch controls were so much more fluid and accurate to me, than the poor controls we've had in previous 2D installments like aLttP.

How did Link to the Past have poor controls? Buttons are far more fluid and accurate than a touchscreen can ever be.

The most overrated is The Wind Waker. It is first and foremost a poorly animated cartoon that assumes Link died in OoT. . . just no. The sailing takes an eternity. The Zora are now freaky bird people. Ganondorf looks like he has a massive bear belly. It's a poorly animated cartoon. The boss battles seemed a bit easy. The ending makes no sense. Its also A FREAKY UGLY CARTOON!\

The most underrated is TP. People seem to hate that game. It was similar to Ocarina of Time in look, geography, and feel. We all agree OoT is awesome, so there should be a connection. The wolf was interesting idea, I liked it. The boss battles were among the best and most action-packed in the series. The story was nice and serious. I got to ride a horse again. It was just an awesome game. Stop hating on it!

Most overrated is definitely OoT. It's regarded as the greatest game of all time. Some people treat it as if it's perfect, cannot be improved upon, and has no flaws. It has plenty of flaws, and it can, and has, been improved upon. People also really like to exaggerate how revolutionary it was. OoT is probably the most overrated game of al time.

As for underrated, I'd say The Minish Cap. I consider it to be the best 2D Zelda along with Spirit Tracks.

Wrong timeline. The first game in the series in the Hero Defeated Timeline is ALTTP. WW isn't even on that timeline. http://cdn.gamerant.com/wp-content/uploads/Official-Legend-of-Zelda-Timeline--570x778.jpg

Also, how are the Rito bad? They were a great race, and, to my knowledge, the whole "Zora evolved into Rito" thing is just a theory, although I don't have HH, so I can't be sure. The Ganon belly thing is minor, and how did the ending make no sense? Also, who cares if the WW had a cartoony art style? The animation was great, and it looked fantastic. You probably just have something against cel-shading.

Spirit Tracks is 3d, and what flaws does OoT have?

Look at this thread: http://zeldadungeon.net/forum/f9/what-complaints-did-you-have-ocarina-time-37148.html

I have a post there (Page 1) stating some of it's flaws. Most are relatively minor, but there are some major ones, and others I didn't list.

Also, most of the time Spirit Tracks has a top-down view. It plays like a 2D game, so I classify it as such.

Most Overated: OoT, OoT is a great game but the praise could be considered extreme. It was great for it's time and I don't think people have quite gotten over the nostalgia.
Most Underrated: Minish Cap, Minish Cap is the best 2D Zelda game that I have played, not many people own this one and it's hard to get a copy of. The lack of easy availability is a large part of the reason that it is underrated.
