Link's Awakening Characters Actually Exist.

Don't bother reading this. I had forgotten this was this Wind Fish's dream. can't believe I forgot.

Everyone you see in your dreams you have seen in real life. I believe that all the characters in Link's Awakening were or have a great chance of existing. To me, this does not mean that Link's mind made up characters similar to ones he knew in real life, but they actually were real people he has seen/met.

So perhaps, this means that we could possibly see these characters in future games. Perhaps, Link met the evil shopkeeper on a boat (similar to the merchant in TWW) sometime after leaving Holodrum or Labrynna, but before his ship crashes.

Perhaps, the Seashell Sword could real or maybe Link just saw a picture or petroglyph of it.

This could open so many doors to future Zelda games. Imagine having a sequel or prequel to Link's Awakening featuring the characters from his dream, being able to use the Seashell Sword and...being able to explore Koholint Island. Koholint Island could be real or maybe instead of an island full of monsters, it might just be a desolate/deserted island.

As for the windfish, maybe Link saw a giant whale.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure you get the gist. Like I said above I believe the characters from Link's Awakening could be real and it would open up so many possibilities for future or prequel games.

Tell me what you think. I would like to hear your opinions.

The Wind Fish is a real deity, it's the thing that made the dream world of Koholint Island, not a product of the dream. Link is made fully aware that the Wind Fish is real when he sees it flying above him in the last cut-scene.

Oh, I forgot about that.

So would that mean that it isn't possible for Link to have seen the LA characters in real life?

Yes, that is right. Unfortunately for that reason this theory dose not work.....

....Unless, it is the Wind Fish that saw these people in the world before having the dream, then it still may be possible!

Of course it's happening in your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?

Despite the fact it's a dream, for Link and for the Windfish, those people existed, that world existed. And as long as Link remembers them, they will continue to exist.

Hold on a moment. You are certainly onto something.

Wind Fish said:
SOMEDAY, THOU MAY RECALL THIS ISLAND…. THAT MEMORY MUST BE THE REAL DREAM WORLD…. COME, LINK…. LET US AWAKEN…TOGETHER!!

This, followed by Link seeing the Wind Fish in the waking world, shows that this is also Link's dream. If you notice in the ending, Link awakens on the raft. It's not just the Wind Fish's dream, it is very much Link's dream as well. The Wind Fish created the world through dreaming, but Link dreamed himself into Koholint.

Marin said:
Link, some day you will leave this island…. I just know it in my heart…. Don't ever forget me….

This gives me the impression that Marin is alive. Everyone is conscious that Koholint is not real, as everyone breaks the fourth wall consistently. But they are all in a dream state. It's not that they don't exist, it's that they are all dreaming themselves onto the island created by the Wind Fish.

There are a lot of existentialist themes within Link's Awakening, and it took me a bit of time to understand a lot of it.

The best way to see it is in a real world example. Let's assume that Koholint represents our world, though it is still a dream state. The Wind Fish is God. Everyone is dreaming themselves into this world created by God. If God were to wake up, we would cease to exist, yes? We would all die. At least in that world. We would wake up, as we generally do when we die in a dream. We would still exist in this waking world, but the question is now raised: is this also a dream world? And if that God were to wake up, what then? This cycle could theoretically continue until we reach the point of divinity, and us waking up will destroy that world. The philosophy behind Link's Awakening is whether or not reality is just a dream fabricated by a divine entity, and we are all dreaming ourselves into it.

To answer your question, Link's Awakening's characters do actually exist.
