Fi could be a major hurdle, but the restrictive nature of Zelda games, the excessively lengthy cut-scenes, and the fetch quest heavy nature of SS in general could be enough to turn anyone off. I also think SS will be a shock to anyone whose first game was BotW who hadn’t taken the time or been unable to play any of the previous entries. In my head, SS is the type of game I think of when I say that I like LoZ games (even though I dislike SS).
This is why anecdotal evidence isn’t very helpful. I hate BotW. However, I’ve played through the entire game with 100% shrine completion including the DLC shrines. Nothing about that game is what I expected from a Zelda franchise entry, and it contains elements of the modern gaming industry that I don’t like in terms of game structure and genre. There’s actually not a whole lot I can say that I enjoyed about any time I wasted hoping I would grow to love it.I don't care if people like SS or not but generally those who do hate BOTW which I bet they didn't get past the Great Plateau assuming that's all there is to the game. I know I did and almost gave up when I thought it was going to be a giant fetch quest but loved the rest of the world opening up. I still go up and down the coast from time to time as it's just so pretty.
