Ideas for a mechanic involving possessing enemies

I would like some ideas on implementing a mechanic from Mario Oddysey and Kirby into the Zelda universe. Basically, I want a game where the surrounding enemies influence the gameplay. But the point is, what would he do to be able to possess the enemies? It has to be something snappy and intuitive like Mario's hat and Kirby's suction. Any ideas?
