Tears of the Kingdom Eiji Aonuma

I would be ecstatic. He has proven multiple times over that he has no idea why Zelda was so great to begin with. Why he had such a sudden shift a decade ago, I’m not sure, but he’s directly responsible for the awful state the series has been in this generation, as well as ruining MM3D. Of...

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

You do realize that the United States and all of its infrastructure was made in ~250 years, right? BotW directly states that it takes place 10,000 years after the last game.

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

I wouldn’t say they were “from” Windwaker or Skyward Sword as much as they just sorta happened to be in those games. All three of the tropes in question are pretty standard open world fare, so I’d say that it’s more likely that BotW’s direction was more inspired by other open world games than...

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

There are definitely some shared elements, though they aren’t really implemented in the same way. The method of traversing the overworld, for instance, is vastly different by design. For the most part, the Great Sea is designed merely as a buffer between the game’s challenges. It’s pretty...

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

That’s the thing though. All games inherently “focus” on exploration. Zelda 1, BotW, OoT, SS, even the multiplayer games. It’s the methods they use to give that sense of exploration that sets games apart, and BotW goes out of its way to change the main method the series had used since Zelda 1...

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

Now you mention in your next comment that you realize you might be wrong about some of the things you said, but I don’t know which is which so I’m just going to respond to all of them. Nope. Everything I said is true without glitches of any kind. The only caveat is that you can’t get the map...

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

Yeah, but it also has peahats and stalfos, which were in OoT but not BotW. It’s a very surface level quality.
  12. thePlinko

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

Objectively untrue. Throughout the entirety of the adult portion of the game the only restrictions on dungeon order are that spirit goes after water and shadow goes after water and fire. Apart from that there’s no restriction. Meanwhile the majority of dungeons in Zelda 1 are locked behind...

Yup, just like in Zelda 1

    Ashley's Thoughts on Zelda

BotW literally could not be any less similar to Zelda 1. OoT is far closer to being a “3D remake” of it than BotW is.

    Which Is Worse?

I feel like you could at least fix the issues with the Downfall timeline by making a new game to explain just how it actually connects. With FSA it makes no sense in general.

Chrono Trigger Excellent game. Certainly the best of the SNES era JRPGs I’ve played. One of my only real complaints are that the art design of the individual locations (and to a lesser extent the overworld too) cause movement feels tedious at times. There were multiple times where I got...

Tears of the Kingdom Caves, wells, and similar places

Caves could have been cool if there were literally any reason to ever visit one outside of the occasional random armor piece. Instead they’re just yet another example of Nu-Zelda’s obsession with mindless repetition and filler content.

Tears of the Kingdom Main quest or side quests?

I tried a handful of sidequests at first until I realized that none of them were fun in the slightest. I spent the rest of my time with the game forcing myself to finish the main quest just so I could be done with it.

Another Code: Recollection Not bad at all. I get why it’s so well loved. The controls could have used a little more polish, and I think Journey into Lost Memories suffers a bit from trying to tell 3 separate, basically disconnected stories at once, but I definitely enjoyed what I played...

Do You Play or Collect Any TCGs?

I got a decent amount of pokemon cards as a kid. Ironically once I actually learned how to play the game I pretty much stopped getting them. I own the GBC game, but I still haven’t played it. I played a decent amount of Magic in high school, but only because a friend was really into them. He...

    What's Your Favourite Pokémon Generation/Game?

5 hands down. It’s honestly the only one I ever really see myself returning to in the future. It’s the only generation that feels like it doesn’t suffer from being filled with abhorrent balancing and team building issues like gens 1-4 while also not being overly gimmicky and half finished like...

Peter Pan Is A Kokiri And No One Can Tell Me Otherwise

He didn’t have one because he was physically and mentally a kid already. Navi was basically his passport between the land of child and adult.
  29. thePlinko

Peter Pan Is A Kokiri And No One Can Tell Me Otherwise

Physically, no, but mentally he absolutely did. That’s what Navi flying off at the end is supposed to symbolize. After tackling each of the different obstacles of adulthood, Link can no longer safely enter the forest of his childhood again.
  30. thePlinko

What is your unpopular Zelda opinion?

Honestly it would have worked better there than in TP since BotWs combat is so overly simplistic by design. Waggling the remote is a lot more effective when you have exactly one move in combat.

Peter Pan Is A Kokiri And No One Can Tell Me Otherwise

So I was going to eventually make a thread about this, but the Peter Pan connections are far from a coincidence. Of course there’s the surface level connections like the Kokiri Forest being neverland as you pointed out, as well as the fact that Link was designed to look like peter pan like...

    Turret Sections

They were also pretty common in the 6th gen. They were usually a nice change of pace, just something to break up the monotony of the general gameplay for a while and nothing more. They were usually pretty fun, but nothing that I’m overly itching to return to.

    VikzeLink's Weekly Sunday Poll 604!

Both Winds and Trains. I always envisioned a game where a new Link in New Hyrule went on an adventure with a seasoned ST Link to outset, where they find an old WW/PH Link and you could play as all 3. Of course I just want Links from across generations to show up more often in general. The fact...

Are we seeing the Switch successor come out this year?

There have been a lot of sources recently pointing to the idea that the next console was originally going to release this year, but has been delayed to next year. I wonder if that’s just because of a lack of new titles.

    Hopes For Pokémon Legends Z-A

I just want it to be better. I know that’s kind of a vague answer but I’m not sure how else to put it. The first game was a really good start, but it needed a lot more polish. The pacing was probably my biggest issue with it, but the battle system also could have used a little more depth.

    VikzeLink's Weekly Sunday Poll 602!

I like the armored trains because they add a little more challenge to the overworld. It’s why I slightly prefer the overworld in ST over the one in PH. The dark trains can suck it though.
