Honestly I do more doging than blocking in Zelda games to begin with so no sheild runs aren't a problem for me and when I finish Skyward Sword (currently doing my first playthrough) I will do a no sheild run.

Actually rather interesting that you bring this up because it was actually a female gamer who got me into the Bioshock series.

I like the wolf for travel when I'm not teliporting but in the first half of the game where you have to kill the bugs just felt like so much filler because I honestly found them incredibly boring to sit through, those sections are the only things I never look forward to whenever I replay the game.
