I guess that's fair.
But honestly? I hope the next game is closer to the classic-style with this engine. Not everyone has 300+ hours to burn on a single game.
BotW and it's not even close.
The story and gameplay were in perfect synergy, and the characters were better as well. The Champions are just better character than the faceless mook sages, and the new sages were in BotW (without actually having to go through the same cutscene four times.) Tulin...
Why would they? The open formula is out there printing money and getting praised for breaking free of the "stale" classic formula.
It'd be honestly shocking if we got a classic-style Zelda that isn't a remake/remaster in the next decade.
As someone replaying TP, lol no. I'd say BotW was closer to it, and Majora's edges out both, no pun intended.
TotK... doesn't really have anything too heavy to it. It's pretty much a basic "Where Zelda?" with the regional phenomena around the temples where some Sages are awakened and we all...
I'm not going to say anything that might be a spoiler, but it's clear that they're closer to the Divine Beasts than the classic dungeons. That's just not enough.
The bosses were a lot better, they're pretty much at least on par with the old bosses. Not exactly the highest standard, but they're...
Honestly? TotK is wack.
The thing about a sequel is that it has to followup something. BotW was an industry-changing game. It redefined how people look at open-world games as a whole. When evaluating BotW, one thinks of how much it brought to the table as a Zelda game, and it was A LOT.
And...
BotW did this well tbh.
It's clear that the Dueling Peaks/Kakariko/Hateno area is supposed to be early-game, Zora's Domain as early-mid, then Death Mountain/Desert as the late-mid game.
Central Hyrule and Hyrule Castle are obvious endgame areas.
Even taking into consideration the enemy...
The story makes a massive difference.
I don't particularly care for the Fuse ability or the Nuts and Bolts gimmick either. BotW's pacing feels better for me. Tbh, I can't really put my finger on it, but TotK feels more haphazardly made than BotW.
Wind Waker is mid. The motion controls in Skyward Sword were fine and the game itself is good. BotW > TotK. Wolf Link's sections in TP were good and there's nothing wrong with them tbh.
The Great Plateau conveyed the idea of an open world so much better than the Great Sky Island, the pacing feels nicer on BotW, the runes were more distinct than Ultrahand (even though hand is a lot stronger), the Master Cycle is straight up better than a lot of what you can build for land...
Yes. My initial reaction to the Great Sky Island was "Ok, this is literally the Plateau again.". Then I realized it was a lot more linear and I couldn't warp, which made it feel like a bad Plateau.
I'm not going to act like TotK didn't work on and improve a lot of things, but having the same...
Regardless of whether or not one likes BotW's approach, I don't think anyone is surprised BotW will be the foundation of the franchise from now on.
What did surprise me is how TotK is quite frankly a bust. It was the definition of "You had ONE job".
The biggest gripe the fanbase at large had...
