Well, that's definitely one advantage - it's free. Unfortunately, only the few beginning areas are for free (Shire, Ered Luin, Bree-Land, Lone-Lands); the rest you have to buy through points earned in-game. The same points can be bought with real money in the LOTRO Store. But compared to WoW...

I personally prefer inverted, for some reason. It might be because I sort of think of looking up as leaning back (toggle stick down), and vice versa.

I personally like timeline as a whole (especially the cover photo), plus it gives you the ability to look back on all your past posts and comments. It is a little laggy, though, and the profile picture area could be a little bit bigger.
