The first big surprise to come from Zelda this year was the announcement of Cadence of Hyrule. Combining the rhythmic gameplay style of Brace Yourself Games’ Crypt of the Necrodancer with the music and adventuring for which that the Zelda series is known seems to have paid off. While there is a bit of a learning curve with knowing how to play the game, one of its biggest draws has to be the title’s remixed music. And one very well-known composer in the gaming scene has once again expressed interest in working on music for the franchise.

Banjo-Kazooie and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle composer Grant Kirkhope recently sat down for a video interview with Miketendo64 to talk about the recent announcement of Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, among other things. One of the questions Kirkhope is asked is if Nintendo were to give him a chance to compose music for Cadence of Hyrule DLC (if there were to be) would he do it?

Grant says that he would jump on that chance if he is given the green light:

“It would be an honour. That Zelda theme is one of the best themes in videogames ever. It’s gonna last forever that theme… I’d do it in a heartbeat, of course I would.”

This isn’t the first time Kirkhope has admitted to wanting to work on Zelda music either, as two years ago he talked about his interest during an interview for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.

I’d love to get on to Zelda, I think. I’ve got to get to touch Zelda somehow. And I can’t imagine it would ever happen, but I would love to mess around with that… my favorite game of all time is Zelda: Link To The Past on the Super NES, that’s without a doubt my favorite game… the soundtrack to that is awesome. That little dungeon tune you have in there, it’s only like a 30-second loop, but you never get tired of hearing it, it’s just so fantastic. And the main theme is just the best in the world, right? It’s just like, I’d love to, that’s never going to happen, right? But Zelda would be awesome. To get to touch something like Zelda would be amazing.

I said it before in that post from two years ago and I’ll say it again, Grant Kirkhope would be a perfect fit for composing music for the Zelda series. He’s not only composed first-party Nintendo music for the likes of Donkey Kong and Star Fox, but his more recent work on Kingdom Battle shows that he’s a prominent composer not going anywhere, anytime soon.

What do you think of this news? Would you love to see Grant Kirkhope work on music for a Zelda title? Let us know in the comments below!
