geyy Gerard Way, former lead-singer for the band My Chemical Romance, revealed to a UK publication that he loves The Legend of Zelda. Way was asked by Activision to help promote the upcoming Guitar Hero relaunch, so UK newspaper Metro had the opportunity to speak with Way about his experiences with video games. Although he began playing on an Atari 2600, once Nintendo came onto the scene he was a convert for life. Way admits he and his brother always loved The Legend of Zelda series, and he recently rediscovered the series while playing The Wind Waker HD with his daughter Bandit.

Way’s love for Zelda seemed to grow with him, as he went from playing with his brother, to playing with his daughter. Way explained that his daughter really liked Wind Waker because she had to figure things out for herself, and Way admired Tetra’s powerful role as both a Princess and a thick-skinned Pirate.

“[My brother and I] really got into Zelda and became fans for life. I play Zelda with my daughter now. She really likes games where you have to figure things out. That’s on the Wii U — we play The Wind Waker reissue. One of the cool things about the game is that Princess Zelda isn’t just a princess, she’s like a pirate queen — it’s a lot better than just saving a princess.”

It’s amazing to see how single-player Zelda games can still be bonding experiences for families and friends, Way sometimes even tweeted about his and his daughter’s progress in the game.

Both Gerard Way and Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus have expressed their love for the Zelda series, now if only Pete Wentz, Brendon Urie, and Hayley Williams were fans, our series would prove to be the official video game series of the pop-punk industry. Do you think it’s cool to see celebrities support the Zelda series? Have you also bonded with a loved one through playing Zelda games? Would you want Gerard Way to perform a punk-rock rendition of Wind Waker’s opening theme (I know I would)? Speak your mind in the comments!
