In addition to the recently announced Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open, Nintendo has revealed that their first European Smash Ball Team Cup will be starting soon. This best-of-five tournament will see teams of three battle it out in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in special stock matches with no items but the dreaded Smash Ball. The winners will be crowned the first national and European Smash Bros. champions.

And that’s not all! This tournament could involve you! Nintendo’s press release details the terms of the tournament, with a soft-announcement date of Spring 2019, as well as a list of what’s required for any competitors seeking to join the fray. Aspiring teams from the following territories can compete in their national qualifiers over the next few months:

  • United Kingdom & Ireland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Spain
  • Portugal
  • Italy
  • Russia
  • Netherlands
  • Belgium
  • Austria
  • Switzerland
  • The Nordics, comprising Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden

The winning teams from these territories will move on to the finals later this spring. The tournament will feature 2v2 Smash, Smashdown, and 3v3 Squad Strike match types, so be sure bone up on these criteria if you want the edge over the competition.

So if you’re in Europe and looking to compete in an official Nintendo tournament as well as bring the heat with your favorite Zelda characters, now’s the time to sign up! More information on the individual qualifiers will be announced soon. UK players can keep an eye on NintendoUKVS on Twitter and Super Smash Bros. on Facebook for announcements regarding their regional qualifier.

Will you take part in the tournament? Let us know in the comments.
