Skyward SwordAs always, the hype is packing up as more and more Zelda fans discuss the upcoming Zelda game for the Nintendo Wii, Skyward Sword. Everybody is coming up with ideas about what the developers might throw at us with the game, and some of this discussion relates to the sidequests in the game. Recall Majora’s Mask and how the game had plentiful and in-depth sidequests, then think of another game with shorter and fewer sidequests. There are a lot of different things that people expect, so what’s your stance? Some bigger roles for the NPCs, optional dungeons, or just some simple collection quests? Talk about it all in this week’s featured thread, Sidequests in Skyward Sword. Some other people have already offered up their opinions, check them out.

“Definitely the traditional collecting side-quests, like the gold skulltullas or golden bugs. Also, I would love to see the return of Majora style sidequest, were you helped people with their problems.”

“I personally loved the force gems in ST, where you could do things for people in exchange for the force gems. I found it really fun to run arround doing errands around the lands with my train. That may be because I like making others happy in real life, though. I also like the optional puzzles, I find them really fun to try and solve. Optional dungeons are also pretty fun. I think SS should possibly show some new side quests, maybe? But my favourite side quest of all time has to be the Kinstone pieces. I absolutely loved joining them with others and seeing what result came out of it. I loved the Kinstones, I would enjoy seeing them in SS, even thought I highly doubt they will make an appearance.”

“I would like more sidequests that seem like a miniature conflict in themselves. That’s something that Majora’s Mask got right. It presented you with not one, but multiple miniature conflicts that needed to be solved. These added to the worth of the story, and strengthened your resolve to help the people even further.”

To throw in my two cents, I think that it would be great to see some sidequests that really got you involved with the NPCs like we saw in Majora’s Mask. One excellent example is the Anju and Kafei sidequest, which really pulled you in and revealed a lot about normally insignificant characters. I’m also looking forward to some sidequests that could be related to the story in a way, which I think would add a bit more excitement to the quest. I think there are a lot of potential for sidequests, and I’m just hoping that Nintendo grasps the opportunity and blows us away. That being said, I don’t want too much focus on sidequests, but it would be nice if they didn’t seem to dull as they typically are.
