Last week on Fan Fiction Friday, we introduced crossovers into our weekly segment with “In The Beginning”. This week, we are taking the story away from Hyrule and into the lives of a Link and Zelda of the modern age. Oni, under the fanfiction.net name ScooterJLM, tells a deep story based on true events and characterized by our heroes. “The Soul Beneath” is broken into two chapters. Each chapter details a third person perspective of Link and Zelda consecutively and how they handle their personal struggles in the given situation.

There really isn’t a lot to be said about the story. You really must read it to understand the depth that is brought to the characters from such a small amount of words. The best I can really offer is to say that this is not for people looking for something exciting. However, if you need something to remind you that you are human and do have feelings, or you want to experience a deep and thought provoking connection story, then take a few minutes to read this one. Oni explains the story as:

Link Hylia has worn the mask for as long as he could remember. Worn it since his mother died, wears it to this very day. A week at summer camp won’t change it, he’ll simply go through the motions of monotony. He just wasn’t expecting a girl to take interest, to manage to peel back a corner of the mask and see the face beneath. The soul beneath. Inspired by true events.

As always, if you have any works of your own, please submit them in the comments section, and you will be featured in a future Fan Fiction Friday. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t a writer though; you can always give us a link to your favorite fan works, and it might be featured as well. Just remember, our fans are our priority, so fan written works come first.

Note: As always, please refrain from hating on fan made works in the comments section. While some may not enjoy works posted by our fans, others will, and we wish to keep a friendly environment for all fans of the Zelda series. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but we want our fans to feel safe in sharing work they have passionately created here on Zelda Informer. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
