(Fan art by LabsOfAwesome)

One of the many reasons that I love The Legend of Zelda is the fan art. The overwhelming mass of talented fans so dedicated as to create a piece of fan art is amazing.

This begs the question, what is fan art? Is the title “fan art” limited to a drawing/painting? I do not think so. Some of the best songs I listen to are fan made songs about Zelda. Some of the best comics I read are fan made comics about Zelda. Some of the best fan fiction I read is about Zelda.

Sometimes I feel that fan art gets very little thought and recognition. Whether it’s a digital drawing, or a Triforce made out of clay, the author put his or her time into making this sole piece of art. The fact that a video game can impact someone so much as to inspire them to take time out of their day to do this is fascinating.

Some fan creations online can go unnoticed for weeks, months, and sometimes even years before gaining any recognition from the community. It’s a little sad when you think about it. So this week I challenge you, the Zelda community, to show appreciation to the talented artists that create fan art. If it’s a video on YouTube, give it a thumbs up! If it’s a portrait of Midna on Deviantart, leave a positive comment. Any fan art you see, show it some love! I know you guys can do it.

The question still remains, do you think the community as a whole appreciates fan art as much as it should?
