With Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity finally giving us a look at Breath of the Wild‘s Hyrule in its prime, it was only a matter of time before the modding community got to work on recreating Nintendo’s official take on how the various ruins in the game looked before their decay. Gamebanana user Banan039 has done just that with Hyrule Rebuild Attempt, a newly developed mod for Breath of the Wild running on the Cemu emulator for PC!

The mod is still in its beta phase, meaning it still has some work to be done, but rest assured, it’s fully functional as is. So far, the mod has recreated the buildings, towers, wagons, and stalls situated within the Central Hyrule and part of the Akkala region, which altogether is 260 new structures – including a restored version of the Coliseum Ruins. Additionally, the mod removed most of the Malice in these regions, making the areas nearly resemble what we’ve seen of them from Age of Calamity.

There are still some kinks, which are to be expected; for example, some of the restored architecture appears to be floating slightly above the ground. Regardless, the mod is pretty cool to immerse oneself in a restored Hyrule within Breath of the Wild itself. Interestingly, in the comments section of the mod, Banan039 has expressed interest in working on a Switch version of the mod, but only after the Cemu version is complete.

If you’re interested, take a look at the mod being showcased in the video above, and head over to GameBanana to download it for yourself if it looks like your cup of tea!

After watching the video, I had a rush of excitement as a thought formed regarding this mod’s potential: what if it could be used to give us an entirely new game? New NPCs, new main and side quests, all set in Hyrule prior to its decline due to the Calamity. That would be something I’d love to see!

Are you impressed by this restoration mod? Would you also like to see new gameplay content utilizing it? Sound off in the comments below!
