The influences of ancient folklore, myths, and legends on the Legend of Zelda series is immense. Surroundings contain elements from celtic stories, our beloved desert areas contain nods to middle eastern culture, and some dungeons are even designed to look like ancient symbols of good fortune. The influences even seep their way into the timeless soundtrack, as some instruments and melodies used can be linked to folk music. It should come as no surprise then, that groups like the DIT Irish Traditional Music Ensemble have drawn inspiration from this soundtrack, and have given it a uniquely Irish twist.

At the Dublin International Game Music Festival, abbreviated as iDIG Music Fest, the aforementioned ensemble showed attendees what the Zelda soundtrack sounded like if it were arranged and performed in a traditional Irish manner. Clips of this performance can be viewed above. They have now announced that they will be launching a Kickstarter project on June 15th to fund a CD which contains these musical numbers which will be called: “Songs of Zelda: A Link to the Celts.”

Projects like this are always exciting, because it gives fans the chance to experience their favourite soundtrack like never before. Although the Kickstarter has not launched yet, the iDIG Music Fest’s youtube channel provides a link where it is possible to sign up for an e-mail notification announcing when the Kickstarter has gone live.

What do you think of the idea? Will you be backing this project? Let us know in the comments!
