Despite all the equipment Link lugs around, we rarely see where he puts it all. Even in Breath of the Wild, Link’s outfits don’t sport anything beyond a pouch to carry all the nuts, chu jellies, and dubious foods he finds during his adventures. Sadly, here in our reality, we’ve yet to perfect the Hylian magic needed for wormhole storage. So, what’s an intrepid adventurer to do? Get crafting, of course!

When leatherworker and crafter Red Smith decided that his son’s birthday would be Legend of Zelda themed, Smith knew he wanted to gift him something special. So, he created the Traveler’s Shield as a usable backpack! An experienced artisan, Smith’s final piece is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. And, in his YouTube video, you can follow each step of his creative process. The video is shown in such great detail that any leatherworker could pick it up and follow right along.

Smith’s work shows the fine detailing only a master of their craft could produce. His work is primarily focused on leather, but he’s also an adept blacksmith and woodworker. If you’re interested in watching more of his process, I highly recommend watching this video where he recreates Reddit user DPooly1996’s Breath of the Wild map on leather.  Smith has also recreated various props from other franchises, such as this Ghosts of Tsushima inspired naginata.

Personally, I think the design of  the Traveler’s Shield already lends itself to being a useful backpack. Unlike the Hylian shield, there are no strange swoops or angles for a tablet to get caught up on. Just think of all the storage possibilities!

But what about you? Did you enjoy this design and video? Would a different Breath of The Wild shield make for a better bag? Let us know in the comments!
