N3DS_TLOZ-TriForceHeroes_illustration_05If everyone thought co-op was the only thing to Tri Force Heroes, think again- it’s been confirmed that there is now a battle mode that goes by the name of ‘The Coliseum’. It can be either 1v1, or a full free-for-all battle (three players total). So now, there’s a little slice of competitiveness in the midst of all the cooperation! For more information, hit the jump!

Nintendo Director Hiromasa Shikata enlightened IGN on the battle mode, stating that it is possible for just two players to battle it out in addition to being able to play The Coliseum with three players, so you don’t have to have three players fighting it out all the time. He’s stated the following;

“In the Coliseum, you’re fighting in a limited space. It’s an enclosed environment and items are placed around that you can pick up to increase your chances of winning. In some of the stages, the terrain will transform.”

The goal of this mode is to deal as much damage to the other players as possible, and the winner of the round is the player with the least amount of damage taken when the time runs out. We don’t have any footage of it yet, but I’m sure we will soon enough. There’s also the ability to create outfits out of materials you gain while playing. Shikata also stated:

“There are materials that you can only get by competing in the Coliseum. Those material allow you to make clothes that are highly beneficial to competing.”

What do you think? Were you hoping for some kind of competitive mode, or do you not care much for it? Are you looking forward to Tri Force Heroes, or do you have another opinion on it? Sound off in the comments!
