Recently, I’ve been looking back at a gameplay from SEGA’s next installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise: Sonic Forces. In the game, Dr Robotnik (Or simply Dr Eggman) has completely taken over Sonic’s world and it’s up to him and the Resistance to stop Eggman as well as Sonic’s rogues gallery. While I am not here to argue your opinion on whether or not you like this game or the Sonic franchise in general, I am here to debate if the conceptual idea could make for a great Zelda game.

Imagine a Zelda game where Ganondorf not only has the Triforce, but has already subjugated Hyrule under his will. You, as Link, has already failed to stop him, with the game starting with Ganondorf breaking the Master Sword and gravely wounding both Zelda and Link. A small group of denizens of Hyrule have started up a small resistance, trying to fight Ganondorf and free Hyrule from his grasp, sending a recovered Link around Hyrule to bring down any fortresses Ganondorf would have made (which could serve as the game’s dungeons) in an open world format, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While you are doing this, you are given the option to search for a way to find the missing pieces of the Master Sword and reforge it once again.

While I could expand on this concept, it would mean I would be here all day or writing an entirely new story for ZeldaDungeon’s Fanfiction Friday. But what do you guys think of this concept for a Zelda game? Let us know in the comments below!
