For as long as I can remember, Eiji Aonuma has been the managerial “face” of the Zelda series. The man is seemingly primed for an interview virtually any time a new game is announced or a similarly major piece of news drops. As a producer, his role seems comparable to that of Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige — an overseer of the myriad projects in development.

That said, unlike most big-name producers, Aonuma has also directed his fair share of projects. He co-directed Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask before taking the helm solo with Wind Waker. At this point, it’s been more than 13 years since his last directorial effort, Twilight Princess. If that is to remain his final one, then that’s one heck of a note to end on.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Aonuma — at least on the surface — appears to still have a great deal of influence over the direction of the Zelda series. However, there’s something to be said about being the director, and — given his resume — I would love to see him step back into the ring.

What do you think, though? Given how long it’s been since he last directed a game, do you foresee Aonuma being a bit rusty? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
