Daily Debate: Would You Like to See a Turn-Based Zelda RPG?
Posted on October 25 2019 by Heather Beard
I recently picked up Final Fantasy VII for the first time, and started playing. I’m fairly new to Final Fantasy so the turn based style of playing is a bit foreign to me. It feels much different from Pokémon games. An interesting question was posed – would a Zelda spin-off make for a good turn based RPG? I’ve only played a few turn based RPG’s and if there’s an option for turn-based I typically turn it off because I enjoy the real time battle modes.
If it was a Zelda spin-off game I don’t think I would mind a turn based battle style, but still a way to adventure openly without it feeling linear. A spin -off I would welcome would be with characters that aren’t main characters, not Link or Zelda. Maybe some more obscure characters go off and save areas of Hyrule? I don’t know, I think I would have to put some more thought in a story that would work for a turn-based RPG. I don’t think turn based would fit a main-line Zelda game. It just doesn’t seem to fit the style of adventuring and playing. I would feel like I would be losing an element that made the Zelda series special.
How would you feel about a turn-based Zelda game? Sound off in the comments below!
