Daily Debate: Will You Consider Using Switch 2 Mouse Controls if They Become Implemented in Zelda Titles?

The inclusion of mouse controls for Joy-Con 2 controllers is one of those little sweet surprises to come from an upcoming product, when audiences guess something from rumors and initial trailers only for it to be actually confirmed as fact during subsequent news releases. It’s not something I would have guessed I’d want, but now that Nintendo has teased the possibilities and officially announced mouse control compatability for games like the Switch 2 editions of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Civilization VII, and Deltarune, I’m sold on the concept and excited to see how well the Joy-Con 2 ends up working as a mouse.
Unfortunately, it seems that you can’t just switch to mouse mode any old time — mouse controls will only work with compatible games, and I’m guessing the amount of gameplay that’s mouse optional depends on the game (whether you’re playing a game originally for PC, or a game with mouse-centric mini-games, for instance). The Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom don’t currently appear on the list of mouse-compatible Switch 2 games, but let’s say in the future we get an update that adds them to the collection. Would you consider using mouse controls for these titles?
I could see mouse controls working well in the Era of the Wild games, at least in limited contexts, taking the place of motion controls for certain puzzles or aiming the bow. That said, I’ve gotten pretty used to the Pro Controller-style setup, and am quite attached to my HORI Split Pad, so I’m not sure I’d want to switch back to Joy-Cons and remember to use them as mice when the opportunities arise — even if the transition back and forth between mouse and regular gameplay is seamless. But perhaps mouse controls mean so much more for the future of Zelda gameplay on the Switch 2, either for future unannounced titles, or for bringing older titles such as those on the DS to the Switch library, with some adjustments.
Are you optimistic about the upcoming Switch 2’s mouse controls? Do you think they’re a viable gameplay option for Zelda titles, or are mouse controls best left to PC-style games and the occasional mini-game? Let us know your thoughts down below!
