Throughout flashbacks in Breath of the Wild we are given beautiful glimpses at what the kingdom of Hyrule once was. The book Creating a Champion also sheds some light on what Hyrule looked like before Calamity Ganon descended upon the land. At the start of Breath of the Wild we see a destroyed, but surviving nation. Civilizations like the Gerudo, Zora, Rito, and Gorons have their homes seemingly unscathed, but the majority of Central Hyrule and other key locations are left in ruins. With Breath of the Wild 2 on the horizon it leaves one to wonder if we will see a rebuilt Hyrule in the sequel.

I would really hope so! I like to think that the time between Breath of the Wild and Breath of the Wild 2 is no more than a few years, but it seems like it would be plenty of time to see some of the prosperity return to the kingdom. My biggest wish would be to see Hyrule Castle return to the splendor that it once was and a rebuilt Castle Town. Calamity Ganon, as far as we know, is gone, but there is obviously a new threat to be seen in the possible mummified remains of Ganondorf. So who knows if those wishes will actually come to fruition.

I’m sure that there are places that will remain ruinous; the citadel in Akkala is one that I think will not be touched again. The Temple of Time on The Great Plateau may be lost to Hyrule as well, but all of this is speculation. Regardless, seeing Hyrule in a time of “peace” would be amazing. I hope that we’re treated to more open world adventures in more complete buildings and places that we have yet to explore.

Do you hope to see a rebuilt Hyrule in Breath of the Wild 2? What monuments and locations would you like to see restored? Sound off in the comments below!
