With a fresh Zelda teaser there comes the inevitable wave of new theories. One that I’m seeing pop up a lot lately is that the character exploring the sky regions in the sequel to Breath of the Wild might not be Link from that title, but instead a hero from the past. This got me thinking, how could the past be explored in a game that is using Breath of the Wild as a template? What I came up with was perhaps this game will feature interactive memories.

Stretching a bit, that hand which was presumably attempting to seal Ganondorf could be the ghostly form of this past hero, I guess, so when it latched to Link, he was able to access its memories. Maybe the sky portions of the game are the playable memories of the deceased hero, which is why there is a difference in the visual presentation of the characters on the surface and sky? It might also be worth pointing out that there is a scene in the teaser where we can see Hyrule’s surface from one of the islands in the sky. The YouTuber/Zelda Theorist MaskedNintendoBandit noticed that it’s an area in the Hyrule Ridge, and using our very own Interactive Map, he pinpointed the exact location. He found that the landscape is curiously missing some Zonai ruins, which might be an indicator that the sky bound adventures of the game are taking place in a version of Hyrule in the past.

Of course, it could just be the Link we know the entire time, and while in the sky he simply has a different armor set on that has his hair down, and showcases the markings on his arm where the strange hand from 2019’s reveal merged with him.

What do you think? Would you like for the sky portions to be playable memories in a past era of Hyrule? Do you have any theories of your own? Let us know in the comments below!
