One of the reasons I stand by my opinion that the Wii U was a good console is because, at the time, it gave me access to Zelda games I had never played before. Growing up on home consoles, games like The Minish Cap, Spirit Tracks, and even the original The Legend of Zelda were games I was able to play because of the Virtual Console feature of the Wii U. The Switch, in repeating this concept via NSO, has expanded it into a massive library of NES, SNES, Sega, N64, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance titles. As of today, six years into the lifespan of the Switch, twelve out of the total seventeen main Zelda games are either available to play on the Switch or announced to eventually be released. The only ones limited to other consoles that aren’t spin-offs are A Link Between Worlds, The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Spirit Tracks, and Phantom Hourglass.

Do you think Nintendo intends to continue using NSO to add games from the Wii, DS, and 3DS eras? Tears of the Kingdom and any consequent DLC will surely prolong the Switch’s lifespan. Do you think the Switch will become the ultimate repository of Zelda games? Should games be remastered or ported as they were originally released? I think it’s possible that more Zelda games will be made available as time goes on, but all of them might create an unrealistic expectation for future consoles.

What do you think? Is Nintendo’s trajectory making such a repertoire inevitable? Do you want those games on the Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments below!
