Daily Debate: Who Should Be Cast in a Zelda Movie?

When I was younger, my best friend Booch and I had this pastime of sitting together and discussing fantasy films. Sometimes, one of us would bring up the name of an actor or actress at random. “Anthony Hopkins!” he’d say, and I would instinctively know to say either Jedi or Sith. Once the Lord of the Rings took the cinematic world by storm in the early 2000s, Booch and I would do the same thing. I’d say “Jennifer Connelly,” and he’d reply, “Elf. No question.”

I started thinking about these kinds of games with the The Legend of Zelda series. I’m inclined to believe that many of us have thought about this before: Who should be cast in a Zelda film? Although the day may come when this particular legend gets translated into film and shown on the silver screen, the most we can do now is speculate, toss around ideas, and dream.

The rules are pretty simple.

Pick any character or characters from any Zelda game you want to cast and match them with the actor/actress you think is best.
You can pick any actor/actress from any time, alive or dead, at any point in his or her professional life. And the choices need not be limited to American actors and actresses.
It’s always good to give a reason as to why you chose a particular person!
Characters who appear across several games, of course, can appear quite differently. If you wish, you can specify from which game you’re choosing as the basis of your answer.

I admittedly had a tough time choosing someone for Link! Perhaps some of you will be much better at this than I am, but my real motivation behind this Daily Debate was because I’m convinced beyond anything that Charles Dance (a.k.a. Tywin Lannister from Game of Thrones) can TOTALLY play Ganondorf (from either OoT or TP)! In fact, I have difficulty seeing anyone else playing Ganondorf.

I’m not particularly wedded to my other two choices, because I know that many of you will have a lot of suggestions and reasoning. My choices for Link and Princess Zelda, however, are here just to get the conversation – well, daily debate – going. Here are my pics. What are yours? Remember, you can list as many or as few characters as you wish. I wonder if Booch will write in the comment thread . . .
