Daily Debate: Which Zelda Town Would You Like to Live In?
Posted on November 07 2023 by Nick Miller

From the whimsical Kokiri Forest to the bustling Hyrule Castle Town, The Legend of Zelda series features a wide range of towns and settlements in all shapes and sizes. Some, like The Wind Waker‘s Windfall Island or Majora’s Mask‘s Clock Town, are built around marketplaces that act as hubs for culture and trade. Others, like Lookout Landing of Tears of the Kingdom or Gerudo Town in its many iterations, are military installations with high walls and built-in defenses. Maybe you’d prefer the laid-back beach life of Breath of the Wild‘s Lurelin Village or Mercay Island of Phantom Hourglass. Perhaps life among the Gorons or the Rito tribe are more your speed.
Personally, I would love life in Ocarina of Time‘s Kakariko Village. It’s a humble community where everyone knows your name. Things move a bit slower there and that’s okay. Spend the day taking a hike on Death Mountain or go for a swim in Zora’s River. You have all of the pleasures of small-town living, yet the conveniences of big city life are still accessible with Hyrule Castle Town only a short walk away.
Of course, Kakariko Village doesn’t come without its drawbacks. We know about the atrocities the Sheikah committed in secret under the town, which in hindsight gives the village more of a sinister feel to it, like the peaceful atmosphere is all a façade, reminiscent of Sandford from Hot Fuzz or Summerisle from The Wicker Man. If you know, you know. Kakariko Village also has a little problem called being in the foothills of an active volcano, but that won’t ever be an issue, right?
Maybe life there wouldn’t be so great…
So, which Zelda town would you like to live in? What qualities do you look for when choosing a town? Are there any that you definitely would not live in? Let us know in the comments.
