I’ll be the first to admit it—there are quite a few Zelda titles I’ve either never played or never completed. Like most kids, my access to video games was limited to what my parents picked up for me. Or, what was handily available for rental. And, as an adult, there just simply is never enough time. I realize how ancient that lament makes me sound, but it’s really the truth!

At the start of the year, I had the wayward thought that this year would be the year that I would play every single Zelda title. I quickly scrubbed that thought from mind, overwhelmed by the amount of games that would be. But it got me thinking thinking—if time is of the essence, which titles are the games someone should play before considering themselves a super fan?

I honestly believe that anyone can be a Zelda fan—regardless of if they’ve played an entire game or not. We’re not about gatekeeping here. And a lot of people are fans because they have fond memories of watching a loved one play. A list of must play titles is for fans who want to take the next step in allowing this wonderful series to consume their mind and soul.

While it’s easy to craft a list based off the mainline titles, I encourage you to get creative. Yes, we can all agree that Ocarina of Time should probably be on that list. But what about titles like Tri Force Heroes? Maybe your list includes non-traditional games, like Cadence of Hyrule or Link’s Crossbow Training? Are you only a super fan if you’ve completed obscure games like My Nintendo Picross?

Make your list, check it twice, and let us know in the comments! Remember, this is your list, so there are no wrong answers. Have fun!
