There’s nothing quite like that first glimpse of a new Zelda game. Whether it be a brief trailer or a single piece of concept art, these teasers have left an indelible impression in the hearts of fans. I’m curious, though — which of these theory-generating announcements had the most positive impact on you?

Although I’ve been following the Zelda news scene in some capacity since 2004 (thanks to Nintendo Power), I had played only a few entries by the time Twilight Princess was announced. I was certainly excited, as it went on to become my all-time favorite video game. However, it wasn’t until a few years and half-dozen-or-so Zelda games later that I began actively awaiting each new title.

It’s fair to say I was at the height of my Zelda fandom around E3 2009. As a result, the first piece of concept art for what would later be known as Skyward Sword left a particularly strong impression on me. This gorgeous piece depicted a Link who was seemingly older than any incarnation of the Hylian hero we had seen before. Within minutes, fans had deduced that the mysterious figure beside Link bore a striking resemblance to the Master Sword. The idea that we might be getting an origin story for one of the most prominent aspects of Zelda lore — perhaps even a prequel to the rest of the series — was just so exciting. Thankfully, when the game arrived in late 2011, it did not disappoint.

Again, what about you? Which teaser do you remember most fondly? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
