Nintendo has built a reputation on being an innovative, revolutionary gaming company. From creating a motion control-themed console like the Wii to creating a hybrid console, the company has no problem bucking industry trends. Overall, this means that Nintendo is not afraid to make things that might be called weird, wacky, or unusual.

Within The Legend of Zelda series, the label of “weird” or “unusual” is often brought up with two key games: Link’s Awakening and Majora’s Mask. Link’s Awakening, which drew some inspirations from the notably weird television show Twin Peaks, includes an animal village, mario and kirby cameoes, and quirky villagers. Majora’s Mask is known for being unconventional as well, with stranger characters, quirky side quests, and some morbidly dark storytelling.

With this in mind, which game do you think is more unusual, Link’s Awakening or Majora’s Mask? For me, the alien invasion side quest in Majora’s Mask will always be the best and funnest example of weirdness in the Zelda series. In what other Zelda game do you try to stop aliens from abducting cows; it’s just a perfect painting of weirdness for the viewer to take in.

What do you think? Which game do you think is more unusual, Link’s Awakening or Majora’s Mask?
