One aspect of the Zelda series that I’ve always felt very passionate about, but that very few people ever seem to enjoy very much, is the title screen for each game.

For me, these have always been some of the most memorable moments of the entire experience; after all, who doesn’t remember the very first time they tried out their favorite game, and how excited they felt when they first saw it?

There are tons of important factors to consider when we look at the title screens in different games, and how they affected the overall experience. The music, the cinematic appeal, how much it tells us about the actual game; these things are crucial to consider when looking at the title screen of any game, not just Zelda.

The music, in particular, is what gets me most pumped to play a new game. A happy song, like the ones we see at the beginning of Wind Waker or Majora’s Mask, just makes the experience a lot more pleasant, and always makes me want to play the game again.

The Legend of Zelda has always been exceptional in this area, which is what makes it so hard to pick a favorite. Some of these are just so iconic in the world of video games, that not remembering them seems like a crime. Everybody remembers the title screen from Ocarina of Time, for example, with its melancholic piano music, and the image of Epona riding in the night.

My favorite is—always will be—the title screen from Spirit Tracks. I know this game is a bit of a controversial topic, and that a big part of the fanbase despises it (I will always mantain that it’s an absolute masterpiece), but nobody can deny the amazing feeling that you get when you see the opening cinematic, and how incredible the music is.

It just feels so adventurous; Link and Zelda look so happy, and the music sets the mood perfectly. The train gives off the feeling that the game’s going to be an amazing journey, and the characters look so adorable and full of life that the game is more inviting than any other in the series.
