Independent of the series’ stimulating gameplay, many games in The Legend of Zelda tend to add a little side enjoyment. Not all of the Zelda games feature mini-games, but the majority do, and that leaves us with hours of side content, and the nice incentive of earning some rupees along the way. Out of the 70-or-so mini-games offered across the series, each game brings something new; but which Zelda game brings the best?

I’ve played several Zelda mini-games spanning across a few titles, namely: Twilight Princess, The Wind Waker, and Breath of the Wild. I probably spent a collective three hours playing the Snowball Bowling mini-game that is offered in Breath of the Wild. It was a quick way to raise the required 3,000 rupees for my run-down home, while also winning enough fictional currency to buy the gear needed for Goron City. For The Wind Waker, I wasn’t as active recreationally. I would try my hand at the Mail Center mini-game, but being as young as I was, it felt like an extremely stressful task. I eventually moved away from any and all mini-games offered in The Wind Waker, and focused more-so on story elements.

My ultimate winner for Hyrule recreation, however, goes to Twilight Princess. I don’t think there was a single mini-game in the game that I didn’t participate in. Not only do I have the most mini-game experience in Twilight Princess, I also think that the games offered were fresh and new, utilizing some of the most exciting parts of Hyrule. Between Snowboarding in Snowpeak, and Iza’s Rapid Ride in Zora’s River, the mini-games were full of action, making the rupee rewards (in my opinion) just a welcome side benefit.
