Daily Debate: Which Zelda Game Has Best Stood the Test of Time?
Posted on June 05 2020 by Heather Beard
The Legend of Zelda has been around since 1986, and since its release we’ve seen the world of Hyrule in many different lights, and across many different Nintendo systems. Some might say that every title has aged well, and others might argue that this isn’t the case. So, between 1986 and 2020, which Zelda game has best stood the test of time? In this article I will not consider Breath of the Wild since it is the most recently released. I’ll be looking at games that are at least 10 years old, or older.
There are two Zelda games that I believe have stood the test of time between systems, remakes, and next generation consoles. The first game is Ocarina of Time. Originally released on the Nintendo 64, then remade for the 3DS, the game itself has stood up against next generation consoles and newer Zelda games. It’s been hailed as one of the greatest video games in history, and it’s not hard to see why. With a great story and interesting game-play, this title is easy to pick up and replay.
My second consideration is The Wind Waker. This title originally released on the GameCube and was later remade in HD for the Wii U. It is personally one of my favorite Zelda games of all time. It’s nostalgic and easily re-playable with it’s colorful design and mechanics.
Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker are beloved by the Zelda community and both hold a very special place in my heart. These are timeless games that I could pick up and play over, and over again. I think both of these games are ones that will never get old.
