The June Nintendo Direct announcement of a new Legend of Zelda game, Echoes of Wisdom, was a fantastic and welcome surprise — particularly given that the formula has been changed, with Princess Zelda as the playable character. Yet, a small voice in my head said, “Couldn’t we have had Tears of the Kingdom DLC instead?”

Don’t get me wrong, I love that there is a new Zelda game. And yes, of course, I will be preordering it as soon as it is available. However, I was so disappointed with the lack of DLC for Tears of the Kingdom that I wish the Direct had surprised us with that instead.

There are so many directions this type of expansion could have gone in. Firstly, we could have seen Master Mode or some kind of gauntlet run in Tears of the Kingdom. What about more background on the Zonai and Gannondorf’s rise to power, perhaps presented by a newly reintroduced Kass? Maybe an explanation of what happened to the Sheikah technology we saw in Breath of the Wild? Or even an explanation on who was the Hero whose spirit is contained within the Hero’s Aspect? And we’d have a reward of the Master Cycle Zero too, of course.

Given a choice, which would you have preferred? The new Zelda playable Echoes of Wisdom? Or DLC for Tears of the Kingdom? Let us know in the comments below!
